The secret to perfectly clean lines when painting old windows
In short: Painting window frames often results in messy overlaps on the glass. This demonstration shows a professional technique using masking liquid to create sharp, clean boundaries and protect your panes.
Host Kevin O’Connor and painter Mauro Henrique demonstrate a method using a specialized masking primer. The process involves applying two coats of masking liquid directly onto the glass panes with a brush, allowing 30 minutes of drying time between applications. This liquid serves a dual purpose: it protects the glass while acting as a spot primer for any overlapping wood.
After letting the liquid cure for four hours, a top coat is applied to the wooden sash. Once dry, a razor knife is used to slice through the cured liquid at the junction of the wood and glass. Peeling away the remaining liquid reveals a perfectly crisp line, eliminating the need for tedious taping.
