Can you repair leaky air ducts from the inside of your home?
In short: In this demonstration, Richard Trethewey introduces a modern method for sealing ductwork leaks without accessing the vents from the outside, using liquid-rubber sealant and pressure testing.
The process begins by removing grilles from supply and return registers, which are then plugged with tape and foam rubber. By using a blower fan to pressurize the system, a computer can analyze exactly how much air is escaping.
The core of this technique involves using the blower fan to mist the interior of the ducts with a liquid-rubber sealant. This substance is designed to find and plug cracks, seams, and holes. To ensure the repair is successful, a second pressurized blower test is conducted to verify the improved results.
