Visualizing three decades of asteroid discovery in a single view
In short: Watch how our understanding of the solar system has expanded over 30 years. This video uses a specific data filter to reveal clear patterns in how we find new celestial bodies.
The video presents a visual history of asteroid discoveries, utilizing data parameters identical to Scott Manley's more popular work. However, it employs a unique constraint: it only displays new discoveries for the two months following their initial observation.
By limiting the timeframe of displayed data, the video prevents older discoveries from overwhelming the visual field. This technique makes the underlying patterns of discovery much more obvious to the viewer while also optimizing the video for processing and encoding.
