NASA's ambitious new mission to neutralize every asteroid threat to humanity
In short: NASA has launched a 'Grand Challenge' to identify and mitigate all asteroid threats to human populations. This initiative seeks to push the boundaries of innovation and technology to ensure planetary safety.
Announced by Deputy Administrator Lori Garver during an asteroid initiative industry day, the Grand Challenge is a cornerstone of the President's Strategy for American Innovation. These goals are designed to capture the public imagination while demanding significant leaps in science and technology.
The initiative focuses on the dual tasks of finding and mitigating threats. It sits alongside other major milestones like the J-2X Engine Gimbal Test and the countdown to the IRIS Mission.
