Could life exist beneath the frozen crusts of Jupiter's moons?

ESA Euronews: Unlocking the secrets of the Jupiter's Icy Moons · 8:44 · Video: European Space Agency, ESA · Watch at the source

In short: The European Space Agency is sending a sophisticated explorer to one of the solar system's most mysterious regions. This video explores why these icy satellites are prime targets for finding habitable environments.

The JUICE (JUpiter ICy moon Explorer) mission, which launched in 2022, is designed to conduct a comprehensive study of Jupiter and its massive moons. While Jupiter itself is primarily composed of gas and is over eleven times larger than Earth, the primary focus lies on three specific planet-sized satellites: Ganymede, Europa, and Callisto.

The mission aims to investigate whether these moons harbor habitable zones hidden beneath their thick icy surfaces. Over a three and a half year journey, JUICE will analyze Jupiter's atmosphere and provide deep insights into the geological and potentially biological secrets of its largest neighbors.
