Three Earth-sized planets discovered orbiting a dim dwarf star nearby
Astronomers have identified three planets circling an ultracool dwarf star located 40 light-years from Earth. These worlds share physical characteristics with Earth and Venus, positioning them as primary candidates in the ongoing search for extraterrestrial life.
Using telescopes at ESO's Chilean observatories, researchers detected these three planets orbiting a faint dwarf star. Their size and temperature profiles are comparable to those of the inner planets in our own solar system.
Because of these similarities, scientists consider this system the most promising location discovered to date for investigating potential life beyond our solar system.
