Astronomers discover a distant planetary system with striking similarities to our own
Researchers using European Southern Observatory instruments have identified a star system containing at least five planets. This discovery is notable for its resemblance to our own Solar System, including a regular orbital pattern and a potentially record-breaking small exoplanet.
The star HD 10180 hosts a planetary system that mirrors aspects of our own neighborhood. Among the five identified planets, one is estimated to be just 1.4 times the mass of Earth, representing the lowest mass exoplanet detected to date.
This discovery provides a rare glimpse into a system with an orbital structure that echoes the layout of the planets surrounding our Sun.
