How astronauts prepare for their journey to the International Space Station

Expedition 31/32 Crew's Final Training at Star City · 5:33 · Video: NASA · Watch at the source

In short: Before launching to the International Space Station, crews undergo rigorous final qualification training. This video highlights the Expedition 31 and 32 team as they complete their last assessments in Russia, marking the final steps before their mission begins.

On April 24, Gennady Padalka, Joe Acaba, and Sergei Revin participated in final qualification exercises for their Soyuz vehicle. These sessions took place at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center, located in Star City, Russia. This training is a mandatory prerequisite for receiving approval to launch toward the International Space Station.

Following these assessments, the crew was scheduled to travel to the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on May 2 to finalize preparations for a May 15 liftoff aboard the Soyuz TMA-04M spacecraft. The footage also features the backup crew—Kevin Ford, Evgeny Tarelkin, and Oleg Novitskiy—who were simultaneously completing their own final qualification training for the Russian Segment of the station.
