Preparing the Soyuz TMA-05M for its journey to the International Space Station

Expedition 32 Soyuz TMA-05M Spacecraft Joins Its Booster Rocket · 12:57 · Video: NASA · Watch at the source

In short: This video captures the assembly of the Soyuz TMA-05M spacecraft with its launch vehicle at the Baikonur Cosmodrome. This critical integration step preceded the 2012 mission that transported three crew members to the orbital laboratory for a four-month stay.

On July 11, 2012, the Soyuz TMA-05M was attached to its rocket in Kazakhstan. The mission launched on July 15, 2012, carrying commander Yuri Malenchenko, along with flight engineers Sunita Williams and Akihiko Hoshide. Upon arrival, the trio joined the existing station crew, which included Gennady Padalka, Joe Acaba, and Sergei Revin, who had been in orbit since mid-May.

The mission supported both Expedition 32 and Expedition 33. During the assignment, Sunita Williams served as a flight engineer before assuming command of Expedition 33 on September 16. The crew returned to Earth on November 19, 2012, after completing their orbital duties.
