Could human-powered vehicles pave the way for deep-space exploration?

Humans … Start your Rovers! · 8:20 · Video: NASA · Watch at the source

In short: NASA is hosting an international competition where students must engineer lightweight vehicles powered solely by human strength. This challenge serves as a practical laboratory for testing technologies that could one day facilitate exploration in the furthest reaches of our solar system.

The annual Human Exploration Rover Challenge, managed by the Marshall Space Flight Center, tasks teams with designing and racing vehicles that balance weight and mobility. By requiring students to build these machines from scratch, NASA aims to identify viable technologies for future deep-space missions.

The event features nearly 80 teams from a diverse range of countries, including the United States, Italy, Germany, India, Mexico, Colombia, Russia, and Puerto Rico. On 8 April, the event started within the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, located in Alabama's Huntsville.
