Christine Gebara, an engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, developed an interest in aerospace design through her early experiences sailing near her home in Houston. Her work on the SWOT mission focused on the spacecraft's deployable antennas, ensuring the hardware was ready for its mission to observe water movement across lakes, rivers, reservoirs, and oceans.
The SWOT satellite is a joint effort between NASA and the French space agency, CNES, with additional support from the Canadian and UK space agencies. The mission aims to conduct the first global survey of more than 90% of Earth's surface water, providing critical data on how water shifts across the globe.
