NASA astronaut Jonny Kim begins his first mission to the International Space Station
NASA astronaut Jonny Kim has arrived at the International Space Station aboard the Soyuz MS-27 mission. This video documents the hatch opening, marking the start of an eight-month residency in orbit for Kim and his crewmates.
Jonny Kim, a former Navy SEAL with over 100 combat operations, joined the NASA astronaut corps in 2017. His background includes service as a naval aviator and flight surgeon, alongside a medical degree from Harvard Medical School. This mission represents his first journey to the station.
Kim is joined by cosmonauts Sergey Ryzhikov and Alexey Zubritsky. Following their launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, the crew is scheduled to open the hatches on April 8. They are expected to remain on the station for approximately eight months, with a return to Earth planned for December.
