NASA astronaut Jonny Kim begins his first mission to the International Space Station
NASA astronaut Jonny Kim has docked with the International Space Station aboard the Soyuz MS-27 spacecraft. This video covers the arrival of Kim and his crewmates, marking the start of an eight-month mission as part of Expedition 72.
Jonny Kim, a former Navy SEAL with over 100 combat operations, joined the NASA astronaut corps in 2017. A Harvard Medical School graduate and naval aviator, Kim is joined on this mission by Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Ryzhikov and Alexey Zubritsky. The crew launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on April 8 and successfully docked with the station's Prichal module.
Upon arrival, the trio integrates into the existing Expedition 72 crew, which includes astronauts from NASA, JAXA, and Roscosmos. The team is scheduled to remain on the orbital laboratory for approximately eight months, with a planned return to Earth in December.
