The precise choreography of arriving at the International Space Station
In short: Watch the technical execution of the Soyuz TMA-19M spacecraft's arrival at the ISS. This footage captures the critical moments of docking and hatch opening that allowed a new crew to begin their six-month orbital stay.
On December 15, 2015, the Soyuz TMA-19M successfully docked with the International Space Station at 17:33 GMT. Departing from Kazakhstan's Baikonur cosmodrome during the previous morning, the voyage included Yuri Malenchenko as commander alongside NASA's Tim Kopra and ESA's Tim Peake.
This docking marked the start of a half-year mission where Peake would conduct more than 30 scientific experiments for the European Space Agency. The video highlights the transition from high-speed travel to the stationary environment of the station, showcasing the logistical precision required for human spaceflight.
