The delicate maintenance required to keep the International Space Station cool

Second EVA Completed to Replace Pump on ISS · 7:28 · Video: NASA · Watch at the source

In short: Space exploration requires constant upkeep. This video documents a critical spacewalk where engineers had to physically remove and replace a failed ammonia pump module essential for the station's cooling system.

Flight Engineers Doug Wheelock and Tracy Caldwell Dyson performed this second extravehicular activity (EVA) to address a mechanical failure in the International Space Station's infrastructure. The team successfully detached and removed the malfunctioning unit from the cooling loop.

This operation is part of a multi-stage repair process; while the old pump was removed during this mission, the new module is scheduled to be installed and connected to the fluid lines during a subsequent spacewalk on Monday.
