How solar activity threatens our modern digital and power infrastructure
In short: NASA Administrator Charlie Bolden highlights the critical intersection of solar physics and national security. This summary explores how space weather impacts the systems we rely on every day, from GPS to the power grid.
The Space Weather Enterprise Forum brings together researchers, policymakers, and forecasters to address the risks posed by conditions on the sun and in near-Earth space. These events can disrupt essential infrastructure, specifically targeting electric power grids, communication networks, and navigation systems. The forum serves as a hub for developing mitigation strategies to protect national security and technological stability.
The event also provided updates on a variety of NASA initiatives, including the upcoming Solar Mission, the Orion spacecraft, and the launch of the 'Einstein' mission to the International Space Station.
