Is a massive solar feature preparing to trigger a major earthquake?
In short: Earth is currently experiencing an unusually long drought of magnitude 8+ earthquakes. This video explores a growing theory that anomalous solar behavior, specifically a massive coronal hole, could be the catalyst for an imminent seismic event.
No earthquakes of magnitude 8 or higher have occurred globally since August 2021, breaking the usual yearly trend. Such a prolonged lack of activity implies that tension might be accumulating within international fault lines. While traditional seismology relies on ground-based data, some researchers are looking toward the sun as a primary influencer.
The sun's exterior has hosted a giant coronal hole, measuring almost eight times Earth's scale, from October 2024 onwards. It is expected to become "geo-effective" soon, facing Earth for approximately seven days due to its unusual width. This correlation is highlighted by the March 2011 Japan earthquake, where satellite imagery showed a similar coronal hole positioned toward Earth just before the disaster.
