From Martian Probes to Supersonic Saucers: NASA’s Weekly Progress
In short: Explore a snapshot of current space exploration, featuring high-altitude rocket launches, autonomous landing tests, and the ongoing construction of deep-space probes.
NASA is currently testing critical technologies for future exploration. This includes the Morpheus prototype lander, which performs self-navigation and hazard avoidance tests at Kennedy Space Center, and the Low-Density Supersonic Decelerator—a rocket-powered, saucer-shaped vehicle scheduled for an experimental flight in June.
The agency is also advancing construction on a lander for the InSight mission to probe the Martian subsurface. Other highlights include a SpaceX Dragon Cargo craft departing the International Space Station and student rockets reaching nearly 20,000 feet.
