Observing the uncommon transit of Venus over the solar disc
In short: In this clip, the Venus Express Science Team discusses initial reactions to the 2012 Svalbard transit, while explaining how the ESA Venus Express mission studied the world.
The transit of Venus is a rare, predictable solar event that occurs in pairs separated by eight years. These pairs are then separated from each other by either 105 or 121 years.
The 2012 event, observed by NASA's SDO, lasted approximately six hours. Following the 2012 transit, the next occurrence is not expected until 2117.
