The rare moment when nine humans shared a single orbit

Welcome to the Station! · 28:03 · Video: NASA · Watch at the source

In short: Experience the atmosphere of one of the most crowded moments in orbital history. This video captures the unique transition as three Soyuz spacecraft docked simultaneously, bringing together an unprecedented crew size for life on the International Space Station.

The footage documents Expedition 38/39, a milestone where nine crew members occupied the station at once. This was only the second time in history that such a large group shared the complex, and it marked just the second instance of three Soyuz vehicles being docked simultaneously.

The scene features an international assembly: Russian Roscosmos astronauts Mikhail Tyurin, Fyodor Yurchikhin, Oleg Kotov, and Sergey Ryazanskiy; NASA's Rick Mastracchio and Michael Hopkins; Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency's Koichi Wakata; and the European Space Agency's Luca Parmitano and Karen Nyberg.
