In short: After a career-altering injury forced her to abandon CrossFit, Bianca Belair pivoted to professional wrestling. Her ascent was rapid, moving from a phone sales job in Atlanta to becoming one of the most decorated champions in WWE history, breaking long-standing records for dominance and longevity in the modern era.

Belair's journey to professional wrestling began following a period of athletic transition. After a track and field career that saw her attend three different universities—including the University of South Carolina, Texas A&M, and the University of Tennessee—she turned to CrossFit and powerlifting. Ultimately, overtraining caused the intercostal chondritis—or shifting rib syndrome—that ended her CrossFit career.

Her entry into WWE was serendipitous. While selling phones for an Atlanta-based flavoring firm, she was contacted by Mark Henry regarding a tryout. After two official tryouts, she signed with WWE on April 12, 2016. She initially debuted in NXT, but her impact quickly scaled to the main roster, where she became a historic figure for the company.

Belair has secured several significant milestones. She was the second African American to win a Royal Rumble match, following The Rock, and was the first African American to main-event a WrestleMania. In 2021, Pro Wrestling Illustrated ranked her as the number one female wrestler among the top 150. Her 420-day tenure as Raw Women's Champion is the longest in that title's history and the longest for any WWE women's championship since 2006.

She earned the WWE Women's Triple Crown title after securing the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship alongside Jade Cargill in May 2024, proving her versatility. She is among only two women to have headlined a WrestleMania event.
