In short: Before he was a cinematic icon, Eddie Peng was an economics major in Canada. To master his most iconic roles, he transitioned from the classroom to grueling regimes, practicing martial arts for ten hours a day and training as a competitive cyclist.

Born in Penghu, Taiwan, Eddie Peng moved to Vancouver, Canada, at age thirteen. After graduating from Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School in 2000, he began studying economics at the University of British Columbia. However, he eventually dropped out of university to pursue a career in acting, beginning with a role in the drama Tomorrow.

Peng's filmography is defined by an intense commitment to physical preparation. To portray a boxer in Close to You (2010), he trained for three months. For the 2013 film Unbeatable, he practiced boxing for four hours every day. His dedication reached an extreme for the 2014 film Rise of the Legend, where he practiced martial arts for ten hours daily to portray the master Wong Fei-hung.

This physical discipline extended beyond combat. For the 2015 sports film To the Fore, Peng trained as a professional cyclist, earning qualifications for competitive racing. This role led to him being named the first Chinese Goodwill Ambassador for the 2015 Tour de France.

Despite his professional triumphs, Peng's career has faced significant turbulence. A 2009 contract dispute with his manager led to a period where his career stalled, only recovering with the success of Jump Ashin! in 2011. He also faced public scrutiny in 2018 following a seating controversy at the Weibo Movie Night, an event so notable it even inspired a plot point in the 2023 film The Movie Emperor.
