How a limit cycle works
In short: A limit cycle is a closed trajectory in phase space that describes self-sustained oscillations in real-world systems.
1. In the study of dynamical systems, a limit cycle is a closed trajectory in phase space. 2. At least one other trajectory spirals into it either as time approaches infinity or as time approaches negative infinity. 3. They imply self-sustained oscillations where the closed trajectory describes the perfect periodic behavior of the system. 4. Any small perturbation from this closed trajectory causes the system to return to it, making the system stick to the limit cycle.
