Can the Mercedes EQXX reach the elusive 1,000 kilometer range on one charge?

The Mercedes EQXX is designed to push the boundaries of automotive efficiency. By optimizing aerodynamics, weight, and powertrain performance, engineers aimed for a benchmark of 10kWh per 100km. This video examines the technical strategies used to nearly double the range of current electric vehicles.

The EQXX project focuses on minimizing energy loss through comprehensive design choices, including reduced rolling resistance and integrated solar panels. The vehicle utilizes a 100 kWh battery, targeting a 1,000-kilometer range. The solar system is estimated to generate approximately 2 kWh of energy over eight hours of daylight, providing a rough average of 25 kilometers of additional range per day.

Engineers noted that at certain times, the solar output was sufficient to cover the vehicle's total system energy requirements, operating below an assumed 250W power draw. This level of efficiency represents a significant step in exploring the theoretical limits of electric vehicle performance.
