Jonathan H. Smith, better known as Lil Jon, redefined hip-hop with the crunk subgenre before pivoting into EDM, reality television, and wellness. Born in Atlanta in 1971, Lil Jon began his career as a DJ, eventually becoming an A&R executive for So So Def Recordings. Alongside his group, Lil Jon & the East Side Boyz, he pioneered the crunk sound, characterized by aggressive, bass-heavy production and a signature yelling vocal style.
