In short: Before he was a face of Indian cinema, Gulshan Devaiah spent a decade navigating the world of high fashion. This transition from design and education to dramatic performance highlights a unique career trajectory that eventually led him to award-nominated roles in some of India's most prominent thrillers.

Gulshan Devaiah’s path to stardom was not a direct route through traditional acting schools. A graduate of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), he spent 10 years working within the fashion industry before transitioning into performance. His early training involved teaching fashion at Wigan & Leigh College and performing in Bangalore's English theatre scene, where he honed his craft in various dramas before moving to Mumbai.

His cinematic breakthrough occurred in 2010 with Anurag Kashyap’s 'That Girl in Yellow Boots,' which screened at prestigious venues like the Toronto International Film Festival. However, it was his 2011 role as Karan Chaudhary "KC" in Bejoy Nambiar's thriller 'Shaitan' that solidified his status. The film was a critical and commercial success, earning Devaiah multiple nominations for Best Male Debut, including a Filmfare Award nomination.

Devaiah has since diversified his portfolio across various genres, from the erotic thriller 'Hate Story' (2012), which marked his first lead role as an antagonist, to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s blockbuster 'Ram-Leela' (2013). He is recognized for his versatility in portraying complex characters, such as a sex-addicted man in the 2015 comedy 'Hunterrr' and a double role of twin brothers in the action-comedy 'Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota,' for which he won a Screen Award for Best Supporting Actor.

In recent years, Devaiah has expanded into streaming media with prominent roles in Amazon Prime’s 'Afsos' and Netflix original 'Ghost Stories.' His career serves as a notable example of how professional experience in one creative field—fashion—can provide a foundation for success in another—filmmaking.
