In short: Sumeet Raghavan has traversed the entire spectrum of Indian performance, from the epic scale of B.R. Chopra’s Mahabharat to the intimate stages of Marathi theatre. Discover how a career spanning four decades has culminated in a new era of collaborative production.

Sumeet Raghavan’s journey in the performing arts began long before he became a household name on television. Born on 22 April 1971 to R. Raghvan and Prema Raghvan, Raghavan first entered the public eye as a child actor. He is notably recognized for his portrayal of Sudama in the legendary Mahabharat serial, directed by B.R. Chopra. While many recognize him from popular television series such as Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai: Take 2, and Wagle Ki Duniya - Nayi Peedi Naye Kissey, his roots are deeply embedded in the theatre.

Raghavan began his professional stage career in 1986. Over the years, he has appeared in a diverse array of plays, including works such as Hamlet, Jwalamukhi, and Phakta Ekach Kaaran.

His talent has been recognized with critical acclaim, including a nomination for Best Actor at the Maharashtra State Film Award for his performance in Ekda Kaay Zala. This transition from television stardom to award-nominated stage actor highlights a versatile career spanning film, television, and live performance. In 2026, Raghavan embarked on a new chapter as a producer. Alongside his wife, actor Chinmayee Surve, he co-founded the theatre production company Natyaleela Theatres. This venture marked a significant professional reunion, as it was the first time the couple had collaborated on a theatrical project in nearly 14 years. Their inaugural production for the company, the Marathi play ‘Hi Dosti Tutaychi Naay’, featured both Raghavan and Surve performing together.
