How much weight can a human truly move in a single minute?
In short: The 2026 World's Strongest Man in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, is a brutal test of physical limits. From flipping massive boxes to pulling trucks, athletes face a relentless series of events designed to push the human body toward its absolute breaking point.
The 49th edition of the World's Strongest Man competition, held from 23 to 26 April 2026 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, showcases the pinnacle of human strength. The competition is structured around intense, time-limited events that demand both explosive power and sustained endurance. For instance, the qualifying rounds took place on 23 and 24 April 2026, determining the ten finalists who would move on to the main stage.
The events are designed to test various physiological capabilities. In the truck pull, athletes must move a 29,000 kilogram vehicle over 25 metres within a one-minute limit. Other disciplines, such as the natural stone medley, require athletes to manipulate heavy stones—ranging from 136 kilograms to 182 kilograms—within a two-minute window. The complexity of the scoring is evident in the monster box flip and carry, where a single repetition of a 400 kilogram bar outscores any number of repetitions of a 360 kilogram bar.
Scoring for the finalists is a meticulous process. Once the ten competitors are confirmed, their results across all events are aggregated to create a new leaderboard. This system awards points from 10 down to 1, ensuring that consistency across diverse disciplines—from the squat lift to the circus press medley—is the key to ultimate victory. This combination of raw weight and strict time constraints creates a high-stakes environment where a single second or a few kilograms can determine the champion.
