In short: Darold Durard Brown Ferguson Jr. did not start in the studio. Long before his rise as a hip-hop icon, the Harlem native was crafting luxury accessories for celebrities. His journey from fashion entrepreneur to the Trap Lord reveals a relentless hustle that defines his approach to every creative endeavor.

Born in Harlem to Trinidadian parents, Ferguson grew up surrounded by the mechanics of the music industry. His father, Darold Ferguson, operated a boutique in Harlem, creating logos and printing shirts for legendary acts like Bell Biv DeVoe and Heavy D. This early exposure to the intersection of art and commerce shaped Ferguson’s own path. By 2005, he had launched Devoni Clothing, a line of high-end belts that attracted attention from figures such as Swizz Beatz and Chris Brown.

Ferguson’s transition into hip-hop was driven by a philosophy he calls trapping—a term he defines as hustling. His childhood friend A$AP Rocky recognized this drive, encouraging him to pursue rapping. Ferguson joined the A$AP Mob collective, adopting his moniker from the group. His debut studio album, Trap Lord, released in 2013, peaked in the top ten of the Billboard 200. The album’s title reflected his self-described impeccable hustle, a trait he applied to everything from painting to music production.

Beyond his solo career, which includes albums like Always Strive and Prosper and the 2024 release Darold, Ferguson has maintained a multifaceted creative output. He has directed music videos, narrated advertisements for Adidas, and appeared in campaigns for Tiffany & Co. In 2021, he rebranded his solo identity to simply FERG, though he remains a member of the A$AP Mob. Most recently, in 2026, he joined the rap group The Scythe, continuing a career defined by constant reinvention and a commitment to perfecting every project he undertakes.
