In short: Zuhair Hassan, known as Big Zuu, transformed from a local grime artist recording clean demos in a youth centre into a multi-award-winning television personality. His journey spans from community development studies to winning BAFTAs and scoring winning goals at Soccer Aid, proving that versatility is the ultimate modern career strategy.

Born in London on 19 August 1995, Zuhair Hassan grew up on the Mozart Estate in West London. His early creative development was shaped by the constraints of his local youth centre, The Rugby Club. Because the facility prohibited expletives, Hassan was forced to refine his lyrical delivery and songwriting skills to convey his message without relying on explicit language. This formative experience occurred alongside his involvement with the MTP crew, a rap collective that included his cousin, AJ Tracey, and other grime artists like Ets.

Hassan’s path to fame was unconventional. Before his media career, he worked as a mentor for children in Haggerston and studied community development and youth work at Goldsmiths University for two years. His musical influences, as noted in a 2018 Red Bull interview, include Tupac Shakur, Jme, P Money, Ghetts, and Skepta. However, his transition to mainstream television proved to be his most significant breakthrough. In 2020, he launched the food series Big Zuu's Big Eats, where he and his friends, Tubsey and Hyder, cooked for touring comedians.

The success of Big Zuu's Big Eats was substantial, earning Hassan two BAFTA TV Awards in 2022 for entertainment performance and features. His television presence has since expanded significantly. He has appeared on programs ranging from Guessable and Jon & Lucy's Christmas Sleepover to the 2025 Netflix series Celebrity Bear Hunt. In 2026, he appeared on the Taskmaster New Year's Treat and featured on The Apprentice, where contestants developed a marketing campaign for his canned water brand, DRIP. Beyond entertainment, his 2024 documentary, Big Zuu Goes to Mecca, explored his personal faith and identity during his Umrah pilgrimage, highlighting the multifaceted nature of his public persona.
