In short: Formed in 2004, Blessthefall became a staple of the American metalcore scene, surviving numerous member departures and a quiet hiatus. From their early high school practice sessions to their 2025 album Gallows, the band has balanced shifting identities with a persistent drive to redefine their place in heavy music.

Originating from Phoenix, Arizona, Blessthefall was established in 2004 by founding members Mike Frisby, Matt Traynor, and Jared Warth. Their early trajectory was marked by rapid changes, including the departure of keyboardist Andrew Barr in 2005 and original lead guitarist Miles Bergsma. The group gained local traction through their performances with bands like Greeley Estates and a deal with Science Records. Their debut album, His Last Walk, arrived in 2007, selling over 65,000 copies, though original vocalist Craig Mabbitt left the band later that same year to join Escape the Fate.

The band’s identity shifted significantly in 2008 when Beau Bokan joined as the new lead vocalist and keyboardist. This era saw the release of Witness in 2009, which featured tracks like 'God Wears Gucci' and 'What's Left of Me'. The band continued to evolve, with guitarist Mike Frisby departing in 2011, leaving Warth and Traynor as the final founding members. Subsequent releases, including Hollow Bodies in 2013, demonstrated their commercial reach, with that album peaking at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 chart after selling nearly 22,000 copies in its first week.

Following the departure of drummer Matt Traynor in 2018 and a period of inactivity that led many to believe the band had dissolved, Blessthefall made a surprise return in 2023. Their comeback was solidified with the release of the single 'Wake the Dead' and a tour celebrating the tenth anniversary of Hollow Bodies. By 2025, the band had released their album Gallows, maintaining a sound that critics have variously labeled as metalcore, post-hardcore, and pop screamo. Despite their early religious associations, Bokan has clarified that the group does not identify as a Christian band, citing diverse influences ranging from Alexisonfire to Michael Jackson.
