In short: Before he was a household name in automotive media, Chris Harris was performing menial tasks at Autocar. His journey from an entry-level enthusiast to a mainstay of global television reveals the grit behind the glamour of professional car reviewing.

Born in 1975, Chris Harris's career in the automotive industry began with humble beginnings. While working at Autocar, he performed various menial tasks, including what he describes as 'cleaning asraghtrays.' Through his dedication, he eventually rose to the position of official road-test editor, earning a reputation for his reviews and a regular opinion column. During his time at the magazine, he even earned the nickname 'Monkey,' a nod to a character from the sitcom Only Fools and Horses.

Harris's professional trajectory has been marked by both entrepreneurial ventures and high-profile transitions. In 2008, he co-founded the digital platform Drivers Republic, though the enterprise ceased operations a year later due to differing visions regarding future priorities. Following this, he moved through influential roles at Evo and Jalopnik before finding massive success on digital platforms. His partnership with /DRIVE saw his series amass over 3,500,000 views in just two years, eventually leading him to launch his own independent YouTube channel, Chris Harris on Cars, in October 2014.

This digital success paved the way for his return to mainstream television. After appearing as a recurring presenter in 2016, Harris was promoted to a main presenter of Top Gear following the resignation of Chris Evans. He has since shared the screen with various co-hosts, including Matt Lecker, Rory Reid, Freddie Flintoff, and Paddy McGuinness. Outside of acting, Harris pursues professional motor racing, having secured his initial victory driving a Formula Palmer Audi in 2000 and participating in the 24 Hours Nürburgring.
