From basketball dreams to the pinnacle of mixed martial arts competition
In short: Before becoming a top-ranked UFC middleweight, Christian Leroy Duncan was chasing a career in the NBA. Today, the Gloucester-born athlete is a former Cage Warriors Champion, known for a striking style that has earned him multiple Performance of the Night honors in the world's premier fighting organization.
Born in Gloucester, England, with Afro-English heritage, Christian Leroy Duncan's athletic trajectory shifted significantly after high school. While he once focused on basketball with aspirations of reaching the NBA, he eventually transitioned to mixed martial arts, driven by a lifelong passion for the sport. His intense training in basketball preceded his entry into professional combat sports. This early athletic foundation helped fuel his subsequent transition into the cage.
Duncan's professional rise was marked by a dominant stint in Cage Warriors. He secured the Cage Warriors Middleweight Championship on April 2, 2022, by defeating Djati Mélan via technical knockout in the third round. He successfully defended this title once, defeating Marian Dimitrov via technical knockout in the first round on November 12, 2022. He also secured a victory against Will Currie through a unanimous decision. This win followed a previous technical knockout victory in their rematch.
His transition to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was signaled during Cage Warriors 148, where he announced his signing. Since his promotional debut against Duško Todorović on March 18, 2023, Duncan has become a fixture in the middleweight division. His performance has been highlighted by significant victories, including a unanimous decision over Roman Dolidze on March 21, 2026, and a decision win against Jared Cannonier on July 18, 2026. His early UFC career included a loss to Armen Petrosyan via decision. He also secured a win against Cláudio Ribeiro via technical knockout.
As of September 12, 2026, Duncan is ranked #10 in the Meta UFC middleweight rankings. His career has been punctuated by high-impact finishes, earning him two 'Performance of the Night' awards—one for his August 9, 2025, knockout of an unnamed opponent and another for his November 8, 2025, knockout of Marco Tulio. His victory over Andrey Pulyaev was achieved through a unanimous decision. He also defeated Marco Tulio via a second-round knockout.
