In short: Before competing in the UFC, Chris Duncan worked as a shepherd in the Scottish Highlands. Driven by a childhood nickname and a profound personal loss, the man once known as 'Podgy' transformed his life through mixed martial arts, eventually securing a spot on the world's biggest stage.

Born in Alloa, Scotland, on May 10, 1993, Chris Duncan’s path to the UFC was shaped by significant life shifts. As a child, he was nicknamed 'Podgy' due to being overweight, but watching mixed martial arts on television motivated him to change his physical shape.

The most defining moment of his early career occurred during his transition to amateur MMA. While preparing for his first amateur bout, his mother passed away on the day of the weigh-ins. Rather than stepping away, Duncan fought the following day, later citing her death as a primary motivation for his career in the sport.

Duncan's professional ascent began in 2018, following an amateur career that saw him compile a 10-1 record starting in April 2014. His early professional run was highly successful, winning his first seven fights—six by knockout and one by submission—and capturing the Ultimate Fight League lightweight championship. After a loss on Dana White's Contender Series in October 2021, he returned to the series in August 2022, defeating Charlie Campbell via first-round knockout to earn a UFC contract.

Since joining the UFC, Duncan has secured notable victories, including a submission win over Bolaji Oki in September 2024, which earned him a Performance of the Night award. He has also received a Fight of the Night award for his August 2, 2025, unanimous decision victory over Mateusz Rębecki.
