High stakes and hair on the line at AEW's eighth annual Double or Nothing
In short: In professional wrestling, some bets are more dangerous than others. During the 2026 Double or Nothing event, the stakes ranged from championship gold to the very existence of tag teams and the dignity of a superstar's hair, making it one of AEW's most significant annual spectacles.
AEW's marquee event, Double or Nothing, occurred at Queens, New York's Louis Armstrong Stadium on May 24, 2026. As one of the promotion's 'Big Five' annual shows, it has maintained a gambling theme since its 2019 inception, typically held in locations associated with casinos or the Las Vegas area.
The 2026 edition was notable for being the first AEW pay-per-view held in New York City. The card featured twelve matches, including a high-stakes 'Title vs. Hair' main event. In this bout, Darby Allin defeated MJF to win the AEW World Championship. The victory occurred in just 2 minutes and 15 seconds, setting a record for the quickest AEW title win.
The event also featured intense stipulations designed to alter the landscape of the roster. In a New York Street Fight 'I Quit' match for the AEW World Tag Team Championship, Adam Copeland and Christian Cage defeated FTR. Had Cage and Cope lost, the duo would have been forced to disband forever. Other major highlights included Konosuke Takeshita capturing the AEW International Championship from Kazuchika Okada, plus hardcore icon Mick Foley making his on-screen pay-per-view debut alongside co-host Renee Paquette.
The tournament aspect of the event was also central, featuring the Owen Hart Cup. While the brackets for men and women were announced on May 13, injuries impacted the field; Willow Nightingale was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to injury, leading to the introduction of a Wild Card entrant for her scheduled opponent, Alex Windsor.
