In short: Formed in a Dublin classroom in 2012, Inhaler has transformed from a self-releasing indie group into a chart-topping force. By blending influences from 80s and 90s icons with a modern drive, the band has secured number-one albums and earned coveted opening slots for global legends like Pearl Jam and Harry Styles.

The band originated at St Andrews College in Blackrock, Dublin, where Elijah Hewson, Robert Keating, and Ryan McMahon first came together in 2012. It was not until 2015 that they settled on the name Inhaler, with guitarist Josh Jenkinson joining shortly thereafter. Their early trajectory was marked by a steady build of momentum, starting with their 2017 debut single, 'I Want You', and a notable fifth-place finish on the BBC Sound of 2020 poll. By August 2019, the group had signed with Polydor Records, setting the stage for their commercial breakthrough.

Their debut album, 'It Won't Always Be Like This', arrived in July 2021, immediately hitting number one on the Irish and UK charts. This success was followed by their second studio album, 'Cuts & Bruises', in 2023, which solidified their standing by topping the Irish charts and reaching number two in the UK. The band's sound is deeply rooted in the music of their predecessors, with Hewson citing formative influences such as The Stone Roses, New Order, Joy Division, and Oasis. Jenkinson, meanwhile, credits Kele Okereke of Bloc Party as a primary inspiration for his musical direction.

Inhaler's live presence has expanded rapidly, moving from supporting acts for Noel Gallagher and Arctic Monkeys to playing major venues like Slane Castle and London’s Royal Albert Hall. Their third album, 'Open Wide', released in February 2025, continued their streak of success by reaching number one in Ireland. As they navigate this 'chaotic journey', the band continues to refine their craft, recently working with producer Kid Harpoon to shape their latest output. From their humble beginnings as schoolmates to their massive headline shows at St. Anne’s Park, the band remains a significant fixture in the contemporary rock landscape.
