How a WWE-inspired nickname fueled a world champion's rise in MMA
In short: From a childhood fan of professional wrestling to a Bellator Welterweight World Champion, Jason Jackson has carved a unique path. His moniker, "The Ass-Kicking Machine," draws direct inspiration from a classic WWE storyline involving The Rock, Kane, and Hulk Hogan, marking his transition from a wrestling enthusiast to a dominant mixed martial artist.
Born in Spanish Town, Jamaica, on October 30, 1990, Jason Jackson moved to South Florida at age 12. After competing on the Miramar High School wrestling team, he began training for mixed martial arts at 19 with The Blackzilians. His professional journey began in 2012, marked by an early regional record of 5–2, which included a bout against future UFC fighter Colby Covington. He spent his formative years in South Florida after leaving Jamaica. During his early professional years, he fought in various regional promotions.
Jackson's career is defined by significant upsets and championship success across multiple promotions. After winning the Titan FC Welterweight Championship in December 2016 by defeating Dhiego Lima, he moved through various stages of professional fighting. His tenure in Bellator MMA saw him secure a major upset victory over former UFC Lightweight Champion Benson Henderson in November 2020 via unanimous decision. He later achieved the pinnacle of the division by defeating Yaroslav Amosov via third-round knockout to become the Bellator Welterweight World Champion on November 17, 2023. He previously held the Titan FC Welterweight title. His victory over Amosov made him the first person to ever defeat the reigning champion.
His resilience is evident in his ability to overcome setbacks, such as an ankle injury during a Dana White's Contender Series bout against Kyle Stewart. More recently, Jackson has expanded his reach into the Professional Fighters League (PFL), officially joining their 2025 Welterweight Tournament. His career highlights include victories over high-profile opponents like Neiman Gracie and Paul Daley, proving his ability to dominate through both wrestling and striking techniques. He also secured a win against Ray Cooper III at a catchweight. His recent performance in the PFL tournament included a technical submission victory over Andrey Koreshkov.
