From Miss USA to reality television, the multifaceted career of Kenya Moore
In short: Kenya Moore is an American actress, entrepreneur, and television personality who rose to fame as the second African American woman to win Miss USA in 1993. Beyond the pageant stage, she built a diverse career spanning film, music videos, reality television, and independent film production through her company, Moore Vision Media.
Born in Detroit in 1971, Moore was raised by her paternal grandmother and aunt after being abandoned by her mother at birth. Her early life was marked by significant personal challenges, including surviving domestic violence while in high school. Despite these hardships, she pursued higher education at Wayne State University, where she studied psychology and communication, while simultaneously launching a modeling career at age 14.
Moore’s professional trajectory is notably eclectic. After her 1993 Miss USA victory, she transitioned into acting, appearing in films such as Waiting to Exhale and Deliver Us from Eva, and numerous television series. In 2008, she founded Moore Vision Media, an independent production and distribution company. Her business ventures have also extended into the beauty and wellness sectors, including the launch of a hair care brand in 2014 and an exercise video, Kenya Moore: Booty Boot Camp, which became a focal point of her narrative on The Real Housewives of Atlanta.
Her reality television career, most notably her long-term tenure on The Real Housewives of Atlanta from 2012 to 2025, brought her significant public attention. However, this period was also marked by controversy and legal challenges. In 2024, reports indicated her exit from the show following a suspension. Simultaneously, Moore has faced recent financial disputes, including a 2026 court order regarding unpaid rent for her hair spa, highlighting the complex intersection of her public persona and private business dealings.
