From writing letters to agents at ten to conquering the Marvel Cinematic Universe
In short: Before she was the voice of a sophisticated AI or an Academy Award nominee, Kerry Condon was a child in Tipperary writing letters to talent agents. Her journey from a horse-breeding family to the heights of stage and screen is a masterclass in early ambition and artistic persistence.
Born in Thurles, County Tipperleary, Kerry Condon’s path to stardom was marked by precocious determination. While a teacher once suggested she pursue a career in accounting, Condon was already writing to show business agents by the age of ten. By sixteen, she secured a small role in the production of Angela's Ashes, setting the stage for a career that would traverse Shakespearean tragedy and modern blockbuster franchises.
Condon’s early career was defined by her work with the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC). In 2001, at just eighteen, she performed in Martin McDonagh’s The Lieutenant of Inishmore, a role she later brought to New York's Lyceum Theatre in 2006. That same year, she achieved a notable milestone by becoming the youngest actress to play Ophelia in an RSC production of Hamlet. Her collaborations with McDonagh would become a cornerstone of her film career, including notable roles in The Cripple of Inishmaan, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and The Banshees of Inisherin.
Her versatility is evident in the breadth of her repertoire. She has transitioned seamlessly from the historical gravity of playing Octavia of the Julii in the HBO/BBC series Rome to the gritty television landscapes of Better Call Saul and The Walking Dead. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she provides the voice for the artificial intelligence F.R.I.D.A.Y. Her critical peak arrived with The Banshees of Inisherin, which earned her a BAFTA for Best Actress in a Supporting Role and an Academy Award nomination. Looking ahead to 2025, her upcoming projects include the racing film F1 and Train Dreams.
