Welsh actress Kimberley Nixon turns her personal journey with neurodivergence into a powerful stage performance
In short: Born in Bristol and raised in Wales, Kimberley Nixon has built a prolific career across television, film, and theatre. Beyond her screen roles, she has recently channeled her personal experiences with perinatal OCD, autism, and ADHD into a semi-autobiographical one-woman show, bringing vital visibility to the realities of motherhood and mental health.
Kimberley Nixon, born in 1985, began her professional journey after training at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. Her career took off in 2007 with a role in the BBC One period drama Cranford, followed by a steady stream of film and television appearances, including Fresh Meat and Hebburn. Her versatility has seen her move between comedy, horror, and historical drama, working alongside notable figures such as Michael Sheen and Matthew Perry.
In recent years, Nixon has shifted focus toward sharing her lived experience with mental health and neurodivergence. Following the birth of her first child in 2020, she confronted long-standing struggles with intrusive thoughts, eventually identifying them as symptoms of obsessive–compulsive disorder. In June 2025, she publicly shared her diagnoses of autism and ADHD, describing the revelation as a significant relief. These experiences form the core of her 2026 one-woman show, Baby Brain, which explores the challenges of postpartum psychosis.
The play, which premiered in Cardiff to a sold-out audience and earned a five-star review, is part of a broader effort by Nixon to destigmatize these conditions. Alongside her stage work, she has authored an autobiography titled She Seems Fine To Me, published by Simon & Schuster, which details her journey with perinatal OCD. Through her creative output and her support for Humanists UK, Nixon has transformed her private battles into a public conversation about the complexities of the human mind.
