In short: Percy Robert Miller didn't start with a corporate machine. He started with a small inheritance and a desperate motivation to save his family. By transforming a local record store into No Limit Records, he redefined independent music distribution and built a massive commercial dynasty.

Born in the Calliope Projects of New Orleans, Miller's path to entrepreneurship was forged by personal loss. Following his grandfather's death, he inherited $10,000 from a malpractice settlement. This capital, combined with the tragic death of his brother Kevin in 1990, fueled his drive to create a business that could provide for his family. He initially opened a small shop, No Limit Records And Tapes, in Richmond, California, which served as the blueprint for his future label.

Miller's rise was marked by a strategic shift in 1995. He moved his operations back to New Orleans, establishing a unique in-house infrastructure featuring the production team Beats By the Pound. This move allowed him to cultivate a distinct regional sound that eventually broke into the mainstream. His breakthrough came in 1997 with the album Ghetto D, which sold over 760,000 copies in its first week and achieved triple platinum status.

The commercial peak of his career arrived in 1998 with MP Da Last Don, which debuted at number 1 on the Billboard Top 200 and eventually sold over four million copies. Despite this massive success, the business faced significant hurdles, including lawsuits and declining sales that led No Limit Records to file for bankruptcy in December 2003. Miller has since pivoted through various independent labels, including Guttar Music and No Limit Forever Records, continuing to release mixtapes and albums that maintain his legacy as a pioneer of the independent music model.
