In short: From a teenage co-founder in the gaming industry to a powerhouse in private equity, Nicole Junkermann has navigated the worlds of sports, tech, and healthcare. Her investment strategy focuses on bridging traditional and emerging technologies, resulting in a portfolio of high-profile unicorn companies.

Born in Düsseldorf in 1980, Nicole Junkermann was prepared for business from a young age, accompanying her father, Heinz Junkermann, to meetings starting at age 12. After studying in Monaco and at Harvard Business School, she entered the business world through modeling and the co-founding of the gaming platform Winamax in 1998. This early exposure to diverse sectors laid the groundwork for her later success in venture capital. She earned a Bachelor's degree from the International University of Monaco in 1998. Later, she participated in a management development programme at Harvard Business School.

In 2012, she established NJF Holdings, which operates through its venture capital arm, NJF Capital. Her investment approach has been remarkably successful at identifying 'unicorns,' including companies like Dollar Shave Club and RelateIQ, which were later acquired by major entities such as Unilever and Salesforce. Junkermann has also held significant stakes in high-growth companies like SpaceX and Revolut, often collaborating with industry titans like Peter Thiel. Her firm's portfolio includes diverse interests in fintech and biotech. She also serves on the board of the AI startup Owkin.

Her influence extends into sports and media through Gameday, a platform that has made her the primary shareholder in Italy's top professional women's volleyball league, the Lega Pallavolo Serie A Femminile. However, her career has also faced significant scrutiny. Following revelations of a long-standing, affectionate relationship with the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein—which continued after his 2008 conviction—she stepped down from several prestigious roles, including her positions at the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and the Royal Academy Trust. Through Gameday, she also invested in the Spanish streaming service CayoTV. Additionally, she was once a committee member for the Tate Americas Foundation.
