In short: Rae Burrell has navigated a challenging professional trajectory, overcoming early injury setbacks to become a vital contributor for the Los Angeles Sparks. From her standout years at the University of Tennessee to her current role as a versatile wing, Burrell continues to expand her impact on the court.

Born in 2000, Rae Burrell emerged as a significant talent at Liberty High School in Nevada before joining the Tennessee Volunteers. Her collegiate career was marked by steady growth, culminating in a junior season where she averaged 16.8 points per game and led her team to the Sweet Sixteen. Despite an injury-plagued senior year, she declared for the 2022 WNBA draft, where the Los Angeles Sparks selected her 9th overall.

The transition to the professional level was far from linear. Burrell’s rookie season was severely limited by a foot injury, and she faced roster instability in 2023, relying on hardship contracts before eventually securing a multi-year deal in 2024. Her persistence paid off as she transitioned into a reliable sixth woman, providing essential scoring depth and defensive versatility. By 2026, her role had expanded significantly, highlighted by a standout 19-point performance in a narrow victory over the New York Liberty.

Beyond the WNBA, Burrell has sought diverse competitive experiences, including stints with the UC Capitals, Kangoeroes Basket Mechelen, and Athletes Unlimited. She is also a participant in the inaugural 2025 season of Unrivaled, a 3-on-3 league founded by Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart. As of April 2026, the Sparks have committed to her future with a one-year contract extension, with management citing her development into a modern, versatile wing capable of impacting the game on both ends of the floor.
