In short: A prominent Pakistani businessman and global leader, Shahzada Dawood was known for his investments in energy and education. However, he is now most frequently remembered for a tragic pursuit of discovery that ended in the depths of the Atlantic Ocean.

Born in Rawalpindi in 1975, Shahzada Dawood was the eldest son of Hussain Dawood, part of a prominent Memon industrialist family. He inherited a legacy established by his grandfather, Ahmed Dawood, who founded the Dawood Group. Serving as a director for Dawood Hercules Corporation alongside his role as Engro Corporation vice-chairman, Dawood established a notable career. His business interests were diverse, spanning textiles, fertilizers, foods, and energy, often focusing on growth through mergers and acquisitions.

Beyond his corporate role, Dawood was recognized internationally for his philanthropic work and global engagement. The World Economic Forum designated him a Young Global Leader during 2012; later, in 2020, he addressed the United Nations about girls and women within science. From 1996 to 2023, he served as a trustee of The Dawood Foundation, which focused on education and mental health support in Pakistan during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also held board positions with the SETI Institute and Prince's Trust International.

Despite his high-level corporate status, Dawood was driven by personal passions for science, photography, and natural habitats. This curiosity culminated in a tragic expedition to view the Titanic wreck. On June 18, 2023, he and his 19-year-old son, Suleman, boarded the Titan submersible from London. The vessel lost contact with its surface ship just over an hour into the descent. The U.S. Coast Guard later confirmed a catastrophic implosion of the pressure chamber, resulting in the instant deaths of all five people on board.
