In short: Imagine being locked away for nearly a decade, not by a villain, but by someone trying to protect you from one. This is the origin of Silk, a Marvel hero whose powers were born from the same radioactive spider as Spider-Man—but whose life was defined by isolation.

Created in 2014 by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos, Cindy Moon (Silk) shares a biological origin with Peter Parker. Both were bitten by the same radioactive spider, granting them superhuman strength, speed, durability, and the ability to cling to surfaces. However, Silk's experience is distinct: while she possesses an eidetic memory and a 'Silk Sense' that is significantly stronger than Spider-Man's, her physical strength is noted as being less than his.

Her backstory involves a tragic period of forced seclusion. After being trained by Ezekiel Sims to control her abilities, Sims imprisoned Cindy and others in a secure facility for seven years to shield them from the supervillain Morlun. During this time, she was separated from her family—her parents, Albert Moon Sr. and Nari Moon, and her brother, Albert Moon Jr. She was only freed when Spider-Man arrived to liberate the facility.

Upon her release, Cindy created a costume from her own webbing and adopted the name Silk. Her narrative often explores the psychological weight of her isolation, specifically her desire to reconnect with her lost family. The character also serves as a vehicle for exploring Asian American heritage, appearing in stories that celebrate these communities globally.

The character exists across various realities. While some realities depict her as a protagonist, Earth-65 portrays her leading a villainous espionage group known as S.I.L.K. and an antagonist to her own counterpart.
