In short: Born in Ireland to a superhero father and a mother lost to an IRA bombing, Theresa Cassidy began her life as a criminal apprentice. From her debut as a villain to her transformation into a legendary leader, her journey is a complex web of sonic power and personal loss.

Theresa Cassidy, known primarily as Siryn, was created by writer Chris Claremont and artist Steve Leialoha, making her first appearance in Spider-Woman #37 in April 1981. A mutant with a hypnotic, sonic voice, her early life was shaped by the criminal influence of her cousin, Tom, who raised her after her mother, Maeve, died in an IRA bombing. Under Tom—later known as Black Tom—she participated in criminal activities, including a vibranium theft in San Francisco.

Her path eventually led to the X-Men and various teams like X-Force, where she served as a field leader. Her history is marked by extreme physical and emotional volatility. She once lost her ability to speak after her throat was slashed by the villain Feral, a condition only reversed when Deadpool used a sample of Wolverine's blood to heal her. Her personal life was equally turbulent, involving a complicated relationship with Jamie Madrox (Multiple Man) and a pregnancy that ended in tragedy when their son, Sean, was absorbed into Jamie's body as an 'infant dupe'.

In recent years, the character has undergone a significant identity shift. After retiring the Siryn name and dealing with the grief of her father's death, she adopted his mantle, becoming Banshee. Her life remains a struggle against cosmic and terrestrial threats, ranging from the political tensions of the 'Civil War' registration act to a life-threatening confrontation with the Celtic goddess, the Morrigan, who demanded she cease using the name associated with her divinity.
