Stevan Jovetić: The Rare Footballer Who Conquered All Five Major European Leagues
In short: Stevan Jovetić is one of only four players in history to compete in the top five European football leagues. Beyond his tactical versatility as a striker and playmaker, the Montenegrin captain is celebrated for his clean disciplinary record, having never received a straight red card throughout his extensive professional career.
Born in 1989, Stevan Jovetić began his professional journey at FK Partizan, where he became the club's youngest-ever captain at age 17 in 2008. His technical prowess and creative dribbling quickly drew comparisons to Italian legend Roberto Baggio. Following his early success in Serbia, Jovetić embarked on a nomadic career that saw him test his skills across the continent's most demanding competitions, including stints in Italy, England, Spain, France, and Germany.
Jovetić holds a unique place in football history as the second player to score a league goal in each of the 'Big Five' European leagues. His career has been defined by both brilliance and physical adversity; he has frequently battled injuries, including a severe cruciate ligament tear that sidelined him for the entire 2010–11 season. Despite these setbacks, he remained a pivotal figure for the Montenegro national team, serving as their all-time leading goalscorer with 37 goals since his 2007 debut.
Beyond the pitch, Jovetić is known for his disciplined lifestyle and deep connection to his roots. A devout Eastern Orthodox Christian who does not consume alcohol, he remains a dedicated fan of his first club, FK Partizan. His career reached a new milestone in 2024 when he helped Olympiacos secure the UEFA Europa Conference League title, marking his first European trophy. Now playing in Cyprus, his legacy remains that of a highly technical, adaptable forward who successfully navigated the highest levels of global football.
