A major revamp marks the return of Strictly Come Dancing series 24
In short: After the departure of long-standing hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, the BBC's flagship dance competition has undergone its most significant transformation in years. With a brand-new logo and a trio of presenters, series 24 introduces a new era for the ballroom's most famous competition.
The launch of series 24 on 19 September 2026 signaled a structural shift for the BBC One production. For the first time in the show's history, the program will be regularly presented by three hosts: Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe, and Johannes Radebe. This follows the departure of Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, who announced they were leaving together in October 2025 after being a duo for many years.
The revamp extended to the professional dance troupe and the spin-off programming. Several long-serving professionals announced their departures in early 2026, including Karen Hauer, the show's longest-serving female professional since the tenth series, and Nadiya Bychkova. Other departures included Luba Mushtuk, Gorka Márquez, and Michelle Tsiakkas, who was dismissed after her contract was not renewed.
The competition's scoring mechanism remains a complex interplay between expert opinion and public sentiment. Each week, judges score performances out of ten, and couples are ranked to receive points based on their position. These are combined with public votes to determine the bottom two couples, who must then face a dance-off. In this high-stakes round, the decision on which couple stays is made by the judges, with the casting vote rotating among the panel each week.
New content has also been introduced to the franchise, including the spin-off 'Strictly: Lights Up,' hosted by Abi Clarke and Tyler West, which will air on BBC iPlayer following Sunday results shows.
