In short: From a rocky debut that saw them dropped by their label to multiple number-one albums, the Sugababes' journey is a masterclass in pop resilience. Across four different lineups, the British girl group transformed from a struggling new act into a triple-platinum powerhouse of the 2000s.

The Sugababes' career began with their debut album, One Touch, released in November 2000. Despite producing three top twenty singles and a BRIT Award nomination for 'Overload', the album's number twenty-six peak and gold certification failed to meet London Records' expectations, leading to the group being dropped. A major change in membership followed this initial failure: Heidi Range, previously of Atomic Kitten, joined in August 2001 after Siobhán Donaghy's exit.

The momentum of the band increased following the August 2002 launch of Angels with Dirty Faces. Influenced by 1980s dance, pop, and new wave, the album reached number two in the UK and achieved triple platinum status. Two chart-topping hits, 'Freak Like Me' and 'Round Round', came from it, alongside a 2003 BRIT Award nod for Best British Album. This success continued through their third and fourth albums, Three and Taller in More Ways, both of which reached the top three and achieved multi-platinum status respectively.

The group's mid-career saw further evolution. Following the release of Taller in More Ways, Mutya Buena left for personal reasons and was replaced by Amelle Berrabah. Their 2007 album, Change, reached number one and went platinum, marking a rare moment where the group simultaneously topped the UK album, single, download, and airplay charts with 'About You Now'. Even after significant lineup shifts—including the departure of Keisha Buchanan after the 2010 release of Sweet 7—the group's legacy remains defined by their ability to reinvent their sound and roster.

In recent years, the group has revisited their history. In May 2021, they released a reworking of the 2001 single 'Run for Cover' with MNEK to mark the 20th anniversary of One Touch. In December 2022, they released The Lost Tapes, an online album featuring songs originally intended for a 2013 reunion that was stalled by legal and rights issues.
