The Druids: Ancient Enigma or Roman Propaganda?
In short: For centuries, the Druids were shrouded in myth as sorcerers and warriors. This documentary uses modern archaeology to peel back the layers of legend, examining how these figures actually functioned as the intellectual and political backbone of Celtic society.
Because the Druids left no written records of their own, our primary historical understanding comes from Roman authors. These accounts often served as propaganda, blurring the lines between historical fact and the fears of a conquering enemy. Modern research seeks to separate these myths from the reality of a sophisticated society where religion, law, and politics were inseparable.
The documentary explores the Druids' true role as masters of knowledge and their influence on European history. By combining cutting-edge archaeology with expert analysis, it investigates why the Romans were so threatened by their influence and what happened to their legacy after they disappeared.
